‘International Women’s Day’ is celebrated on March 8 every year. This day was originally called ‘The International Working Women’s Day’. To celebrate, respect and appreciate achievements of women, we decided to interview five dynamic women travellers from Bengaluru and share their journeys. Inspiring!

1. Your favourite destination

Absolutely anywhere that I haven’t been before.

2. One thing you like the most about travel

That just by going some place, you come back home feeling new.

3. Have you travelled solo? How was your experience?

Yes, a few times. Pretty decent experience so far. I love driving so if I’m alone, I prefer road trips!

4. If you are asked to trade your hometown with one place which one would that be and why?

I guess home is something you just can’t trade, therefore, we travel (She smiles)

5. Your hometown: Bangalore

6. Your heart town: Ooty

7. The hills or the beach?

Both for sure, but one at a time!

8. Choose one: Tree house | Jungle house | Boat house | Hill top house | Beach house | Tent | Skyscraper

Tree house

9. Your most memorable holiday stay experience?

Jungle Retreat, Masinagudi is like home away from home for me. Love going there.

1. Your favourite destination

I love the mountains. Love the Himalayas. Any place less travelled and away from civilisation.

2. One thing you like the most about travel

Getting lost. Unfamiliarity or unknown. Surprises. But the one thing would be missing the place after.

3. Have you travelled solo? How was your experience?

A few times. You are never alone when you travel solo. Even when you are. My first trip alone was to McLoyd Ganj for a Buddhist meditation course. Then, I did some alone trips to the Himalayas to study mountaineering. I love travelling alone.

4. If you are asked to trade your hometown with one place which one would that be and why?

Can’t decide really. Maybe a place I haven’t been. But a favourite place from where I’ve travelled would be Bhutan. Because their constitution demands that minimum 69% of their land will always be covered in forests. And many other reasons. Loved the vibe there. I like the entire Himalayas.

5. Your hometown: Himalayas, although it’s not a town. Love the coasts of India too.

6. Your heart town: Tough for me to pick one place. I’ll say Manali (if I have to).

7. The hills or the beach?

Hills. (She smiles) With lots of green cover. Many hills in India have been seriously exploited.

8. Choose one: Tree house | Jungle house | Boat house | Hill top house | Beach house | Tent | Skyscraper

Tree house. A basic one.

9. Your most memorable holiday stay experience?

All the mountaineering courses I did from Manali, Uttarkashi and Darjeeling. Stayed in tents, dormitories, and home of locals. Loved it all.

1. Your favourite destination

Mountains and any place as kind, as long as it’s a mountain.

2. One thing you like the most about travel

Travelling broadens your horizon both ways, exploring the world that there is, as well as gives one a chance to introspect within.

3. Have you travelled solo? How was your experience?

Yes, travelling solo is one of the most liberating feelings one can get. All of my solo trips have been – touch wood – wonderful experiences, I have met wonderful people who have helped me, assisted, and made me feel welcome into their lives, to have the honour to peek into their world with open arms.

4. If you are asked to trade your hometown with one place which one would that be and why?

Well, my dad was in a transferable job so from the time I remember, we have been on the move. I wouldn’t know which place I would call my hometown. At the same time, I had the privilege of having so many “home towns” and no I wouldn’t trade any place for any of them.

5. Your hometown: The mountains.

6. Your heart town: The mountains. (She smiles)

7. The hills or the beach?

The hills, of course!

8. Choose one: Tree house | Jungle house | Boat house | Hill top house | Beach house | Tent | Skyscraper

Hill top house

9. Your most memorable holiday stay experience?

Ladakh, for a music festival. Was by far the most memorable holiday. This was the first time I visited the cold desert. The way nature just made me feel so humble and insignificant, the first time I came face to face with the bare mountains is something I will never forget!

1. Your favourite destination

India. Specially Kerala, South India. I like tropical weather, nature, history and cuisine.

2. One thing you like the most about travel

Tasting different cuisines. Finding new spices and attempting different recipes.

3. Have you travelled solo? How was your experience?

I’ve been travelling solo from my university days. Solo trip gives me a lot of thinking time. I don’t like planning too much during my solo trips. Usually, the itinerary reflects my mood, which is something I can’t do in my business. Leaves me with time for myself.

4. If you are asked to trade your hometown with one place which one would that be and why?

Very difficult question, maybe south Italy? Like, Napoli. It’s a beautiful city with good weather and I enjoy their food and wine culture.

5. Your hometown: My hometown is Kyoto, Japan.

6. Your heart town: Haven’t discovered yet.

7. The hills or the beach?

I’m a 100% beach person.

8. Choose one: Tree house | Jungle house | Boat house | Hill top house | Beach house | Tent | Skyscraper

Beach house

9. Your most memorable holiday stay experience?

Camping in Sahara desert
